Are you qualified to enroll in business school?
Most degree programs have specific requirements in terms of previous courses of study, and subjects covered. If you have attended a traditional university, you will need transcripts of your courses and marks to show the institute you apply to for your online courses.
Do you have work, or “life” experience? If so, many institutions will now give credit for these, through flexible assessment of your knowledge, skills and abilities. The credits you receive are not for actual experiences, but for what you have learned for them. These may apply directly to your field of study, for example- if you have been working in a computer related job and are now applying for a BS in computer science. Or, they may be volunteer, and other work related experiences, which may fulfill some of the requirements for base courses/experience in such areas as humanities topics.
How are you going to handle a job and study?
One of the biggest benefits of accredited online education, is the flexibility it allows the student, whether they be unemployed, stay at home parents, or working professionals. There is the freedom to arrange your study around home and job commitments, and to spend more time on the areas that you find require prolonged attention or work.
Mature students with families may find this more challenging than expected. Time management is essential, so that studying is not cramped into what hours are left over from other things. Feeling pressured by work, home and lessons, takes away your ability to cope with any one of them, let alone the cumulative pressures.
Set aside time for all your commitments, and let those around you know that this time is not for anything else but what you have planned.
