MAED/TED - Master of Arts in Education/Teacher Education Program. To become a teacher by profession is it required?

Introduction:

This is a Masters Degree program, and therefore, it is imperative that the seeker of this Masters Degree should be a Graduate. The idea behind this program is to assist Bachelor Degree Holders in any discipline to become a good Teacher.

Qualitative teaching is an essential input for meaningful school reforms. This is amply reflected in the report of The National Commission on Teaching and Americas Future (1996) which stated, “..the school reform movement has ignored the obvious: What teachers know and can do makes the crucial difference in what children learn…”

There are two programs, one for the Elementary Licensure and the second for the Secondary Licensure. The main focus on these programs would be on P-12 Teacher learning curriculum standards which seeks to improve the Teachers responsibility besides improvement of schools through engaging parents, families, agencies and communities in the support of children and youth in advancing their education without any hindrance. This is also built in the K-12 education - a program, which concentrates totally on improvement of school services, school environment, school organization, and most importantly improvement in instruction, meant for base level Elementary schools as also Middle and Secondary schools.

Elementary Licensure and Secondary Licensure:

These programs build a strong teaching platform for the seekers. The curriculum deals among other things, on learning theories, how to teach in diverse environments, how to manage the class, how to design and assess curriculum, various instrumental strategies, school law and ethics, State and Federal standards etc.

Those who aspire for Licensure programs are advised to contact their own State Department of Education to get the licensure requirements as this varies from state to state.

Scope:

President George W Bush had emphatically stated, “ When it comes to education of our children failure is not an option”. Also, Red Paige, US Secretary of Education stated thus: “ Harness the power of parents and communities to give every American child and excellent Education”.

The requirement for a trained Teacher is ever increasing. If this is the case of one individual state, imagine what would be the magnitude of fresh requirements of Teachers for the entire country. The scope is tremendous.

If you want a decent, respectable profession, opt for an MAED/TED Degree. Decide and act NOW!
